A Beginners Guide to Solar
Updated: Apr 30
Are you thinking of solar and are looking for more information? Find the answers to your questions and discover the things you didn’t even realise you needed to know.
1. Why should I get solar?
The sun is an infinite renewable energy source and it’s FREE for the taking! Don’t let the sun on your roof go to waste, start collecting the sun’s energy! Stop buying power off your energy providers and produce your own electricity for free!
Advanced Solar specifically tailor each solar system to the specific needs of each individual client. Solar systems are NOT a one size fits all product. We customise solar systems based on the client's average energy usage, their roof dimensions, their desired product brands and sizes whilst also considering their budget!
3. How many solar panels do I need?
The amount of solar panels needed is dependant on the solar system size, which is based on daily energy usage, as well as available roof space. Once the system size is determined then the amount of solar panels needed to make up the system is calculated.
4. Is a solar system worth the investment?
YES! The energy produced by the solar system will decrease the amount you need to pay the energy providers for electricity. The money saved on electricity can pay off the solar system investment, then after that, the money will essentially be putting money back in your pocket.
5. How does the government rebate work?
The Government Solar Rebate is an incentive run to encourage the installation of renewable energy systems. This rebate is calculated based on the number of Small Technology Credit (STC) the solar system is eligible for. This is determined by various factors, including the location, solar system size and the date of installation. Once this is accurately calculated, the rebate is added as a deduction off your quote.
6. How much do I have to pay upfront for my solar system?
$0 upfront, if that is what you choose! Advanced Solar have solar finance options to give you the opportunity to install the solar system and have it producing electricity while you pay it off over a desired period of time.
7. How much can I save with a solar system?
A standard solar system can produce enough energy to save you up to 80% on your electricity bill and keep your money in your pocket!
8. When will I start saving from my solar system?
As soon as the solar system is operational the savings will start accumulating, then you will see this saving on your next electricity bill.
9. What happens if there is shading on my roof?
Advanced Solar are equipped with accredited solar designers to develop a tailored solar system designed based on the unique requirements and circumstances of each individual client, such as shading on the roof. In addition, advanced technologies such as ENPHASE microinverters and SolarEdge optimisers have been developed to minimise the effects of roof shading on the solar system total energy production.
10. Will the solar system still work in Winter?
YES. Solar panels require sunlight to collect energy, specifically ultraviolet (UV) rays. Therefore, the solar system will still function and produce electricity during winter even though there is less sunlight hitting the panel, due to more cloud coverage.
11. How will I maintain my solar system?
Once the solar system is up and running, it is a self sufficient renewable energy source for your home or business. Although, we do recommend getting regular system checks to ensure safe and efficient operations of your solar system.
